Injuries to some players bring the roster into clearer focu

As spring training comes to a close, the Phillies' roster decisions must be made. Usually, at this point, they're looking at the final bullpen place, as well as a bench space or two.

Walker was projected to be the fourth or fifth starter in the rotation, with Turnbull serving as depth in the event of an injury.

With Walker sidelined for a while, Turnbull will open the season as the fifth starter, and the team will carry on. There have been additional injuries.

There are a few moving components to sort out here. Turnbull was expected to compete with Covey for the long relief position on the team, but those plans appear to have been scrapped.

It creates an opportunity for someone to file a claim based on the severity of Walker's injuries.

Will the team fill that spot with someone who can pitch several innings, such as Kolby Allard or Nick Nelson, or will they merely have another short-term reliever.

Pitchers like Jose Ruiz, Connor Brogdon, Yunior Marte, and Luis Ortiz were already competing for a bullpen position, but now two of them will travel to Philadelphia for Opening Day.

Those three are the most likely options for the time being because they already have 40-man roster positions and do not require a deal to fit on the 26-man roster.
